FloAria Atelier — Museum-Grade Binders

The Sacred Bond:
Echoes of Time, Bound in Earth

Mineral pigments hold no intrinsic binding properties of their own — they are dormant, awaiting the medium to awaken their soul. Our pure, ancient-grade animal binders are sourced responsibly and carry forward thousands of years of cave mural preservation heritage. Each granule is a vessel of continuity, linking the artist's hand to the enduring spirit of Dunhuang.

The Three Eras of Binders

Variant Specifications

Each medium engineered for distinct artistic sovereignty

Coarse Bovine Gelatin

Bovine Bone Medium • For Primal Textures

Coarse Bovine Gelatin
粗矿专用牛骨胶

Specially filtered for coarse mineral pigments and heavy texturing layers. Provides high elasticity and structural tension to prevent cracking on thick mud boards. The foundation of monumental creation.

Imperial Hide Glue

Ancient Hide Binder • For Classical Linework

Imperial Hide Glue
古画临摹牛皮胶

Extra-refined, archival-grade hide glue extracted through classical slow-simmer methods. Ideal for fine lining, iron-wire brush strokes, and delicate glazing. Minimal shrinking, maximum clarity.

Pure Clarified Gelatin

Pure Crystal Gelatin • For Luminescent Washes

Pure Clarified Gelatin
明胶

Ultra-transparent, refined gelatin. Completely clear, ensuring zero distortion of vibrant, raw mineral hues. Perfect for layer-by-layer ethereal washes like flying deities or mineral clouds.

The Ancient Protocol

The Ritual of Preparation

Step IHydration — 泡胶

Submerge the crystalline granules in cold, purified water at a 1:5 ratio. Let it rest for 2–4 hours until fully hydrated and plump. The granules will swell, releasing their dormant potential into the water.

Step IIGentle Simmer — 融胶

Heat the hydrated binder using a double-boiler method (water bath). Maintain temperature around 50°C–60°C. Never let it boil, as overheating destroys the organic protein chain and diminishes binding integrity.

⚠ Crucial: Temperatures exceeding 70°C will irreversibly denature the protein structure.

Step IIIColor Fusion — 研磨调和

Gradually drop the warm liquid medium onto the raw mineral pigments. Grind smoothly with a glass muller or pestle in circular motions until a smooth, fluid, lacquer-like ink is born. The binding soul fuses with the color, ready to adhere to your canvas.

Preservation & Vigilance

  • Organic Medium: As these are ancient, pure organic proteins containing zero synthetic preservatives, cooked liquid mediums should be stored in a refrigerator and consumed within 3–5 days for optimal binding performance.

  • Climate Sensitivity: Protect dried murals from extreme humidity. The natural breathing nature of animal glue gives it unmatched longevity but requires a stable domestic sanctuary — a controlled environment preserves the centuries-old integrity.
